The History

Bartolomeo Racca purchased Tenuta Montanello on April 19, 1864 from the Count of Castiglione Falletto, Patrizio Filippo di Scagnello.

For many years it was the site of the first Social Winery of the Langhe: the Social Winery of Castiglione Falletto, which at the end of the 1800s brought together as many as 36 producers from this municipality.

Thus began the production and marketing of the first Barolo.

Today, after five generations, Tenuta Montanello is still owned by the Racca family and is managed by Alberto Racca, who runs the company with respect for tradition but open to innovations in the wine sector.

The Montanello hill has always been considered one of the best cru in the Barolo area; it was included by Renato Ratti in his Barolo Map, and by Slow Food among the Great Vineyards of the Langhe.

The composition of the soil and its excellent exposure to the south, southwest, and west, produce a Barolo with good alcohol content and intense aroma, worthy of its ancient history.
