The History

Bartolomeo Racca purchased Tenuta Montanello on April 19, 1864, from the Count of Castiglione Falletto, Patrizio Filippo di Scagnello.

For many years, it was home to the first Cantina Sociale of the Langhe: the Cantina Sociale di Castiglione Falletto, which in the late 1800s brought together 36 producers from this municipality.

This is how the first Barolo began to be produced and marketed.

Today, after five generations, Tenuta Montanello is still owned by the Racca family and managed by Alberto Racca, who leads the company with a respect for tradition yet open to innovation in the winemaking industry.

The Montanello hill has always been considered one of the finest crus in the Barolo area; it was included by Renato Ratti in his Barolo Charter, and by Slow Food among the Great Vineyards of the Langhe.
